John has been active in the music and performing arena since his days at school where he was involved in several outstanding performances and gained top honors at competitions.
He took part in various competitions both locally and regionally and emerged finalists in several of them.
Examples of these notable competitions includes Stardust, Virtuoso, Rhapsody and Impresario, organised by local universities. Apart from these, he also clinched 1st in both Solo and Group Category for Pioneer JC's talenttime.
In 2000, he participated in a SCV Song Challenge and emerged as Champion, earning himself a chance to perform with Tanya Chua during National Day Parade 2000. Regionally, he took part in Genting's Be A Star, in which he competed against competitors across the South East Asian region.
In 2002, John bagged the International School Music Awards for Best Composition / Vocal Trainer.
Throughout his music career, John has received vocal training under reputable music instructors and schools. He was formally admitted into BPS International School's music programme, in which he clinched a most outstanding vocal performance award. In addition to being a singer and pianist in the SAF Music and Drama Company vocal ensemble, John has also contributed several music arrangements and compositions to the group’s repertoire.
He has also had the chance to work with famous musicians such as Singapore Idol judge Babes Conde, Dick Lee, John Lee, AiMeng, Fang Zhong Hua, Peter Laoshi, etc.
John has previously been Choir Conductor in various MOE Schools. He has been providing vocal training to Republic Polytechnic's Replug CCA. He is also currently freelancing as vocal and keyboard instructor at reputable music schools such as Yamaha and Academy IG, as well as choir conductor of Pioneer Secondary School
His strive for musical versatility, and his ability to build easy rapport with students of various ages, will make your musical journey an enjoyable and interesting one
